Options

Compression

Balanced: clearly smaller files with quality that looks good on phones and laptops. Best for sharing.

Video codec

Plays everywhere: all browsers, phones, TVs and editing apps. The safest choice.

Maximum resolution

Audio

The resolution refers to the shorter side (720p = 1280×720, or 720×1280 for portrait videos). Videos are never enlarged. Audio is re-encoded (AAC, or Opus for WEBM).

About Compress Video

Compression runs on our server with FFmpeg (x264 for H.264, x265 for H.265, libvpx for VP9) using constant-quality encoding: the level sets a CRF value, which you can also adjust yourself. MP4 files are prepared for streaming (fast start), and videos are never enlarged when you pick a lower resolution. You see real progress while encoding, the original and new sizes and the percentage saved. If the result is not smaller, which happens with videos that are already well compressed, we say so clearly instead of quietly handing you a bigger file. Videos up to 10 minutes are accepted. Files are deleted after download, or automatically within about 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Which codec should I use?

H.264 plays everywhere. H.265 makes smaller files but plays in fewer browsers and devices. VP9 (WEBM) is efficient for the web but slower to encode.

Why is the compressed video not smaller?

Phone and streaming videos are often already compressed efficiently. Re-encoding them at a similar quality cannot shrink them; choose a higher level or a lower resolution, or keep your original.

Does compression reduce quality?

A little, by design. The Low level keeps quality very close to the original; High gives the smallest files with visible softening in detailed scenes.

Can I cancel a long compression?

Yes. Cancel stops the encoder on the server immediately and your files are deleted.
