About Repair PDF
Repair runs on our server with qpdf (through pikepdf), which rebuilds damaged cross-reference tables and rewrites every object, and with PDFium, which renders each page to confirm it opens. If the document cannot be rebuilt as a whole, readable pages are copied one by one and the report lists the pages that were lost. Password-protected PDFs need their open password; nothing is ever bypassed, and the repaired file keeps its protection and restrictions. Recovery is best effort: content that is missing from the file cannot be restored. Files are deleted after download, or automatically within about 15 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
What kinds of damage can be fixed?
Broken or missing cross-reference tables, a missing end-of-file marker, data before the header and many structural errors. Pages whose content was overwritten or cut off cannot be restored.
My PDF has a password. Will it be removed?
No. Enter the open password if the file asks for one; the repaired PDF keeps the same protection and permissions. We never remove or bypass security.
Why are some pages blank or missing?
Their data was missing or unreadable in the original. The report lists the affected pages so you know exactly what to check.
