About Image to Text (OCR)

Text recognition runs on our server with the open-source Tesseract OCR engine and English and Arabic language data. Optional enhancement converts the image to greyscale, normalises contrast and enlarges small images, which helps with screenshots and phone photos. The result is plain Unicode text; formatting and tables are not kept. Accuracy depends on image quality, so the tool shows the engine's average confidence and warns you when it is low or when no text was found. Images are deleted from the server once the result reaches your browser, or within about 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read handwriting?

Tesseract is designed for printed text. Neat handwriting is sometimes recognised, but results are usually poor.

How can I get better results?

Use a sharp, well-lit, straight image with good contrast, and choose the correct language.

Is the text kept on your server?

No. The image and the result are deleted after delivery, or automatically within about 15 minutes.
