Bitrate

The selection is decoded and re-encoded so the cut is accurate to the sample. Higher bitrates sound better.

How to use Cut Audio

  1. 1

Open an audio file. The waveform is drawn in your browser; nothing is uploaded yet.

  2. 2

Drag the selection or type exact start and end times, play the selection and set fades if you like.

  3. 3

Choose the output format, cut and download.

About Cut Audio

The waveform and playback run in your browser with wavesurfer.js; the file is uploaded only when you start. On our server FFmpeg decodes the audio and cuts it at the exact sample, applies the fades and encodes the result, so the cut is accurate even in MP3 files. WAV and FLAC outputs keep the selected samples exactly; MP3, M4A and OGG are re-encoded at the bitrate you choose. Very large files are not drawn as a waveform to save memory, but the selection still works. Audio up to one hour is accepted. Files are deleted after download, or automatically within about 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How precise is the cut?

Sample-accurate: the audio is decoded and cut at the exact sample before it is saved.

Does cutting an MP3 lose quality?

Saving to MP3, M4A or OGG re-encodes the selection, which is a small loss at good bitrates. Choose WAV or FLAC to keep the decoded samples exactly.

Why is no waveform shown?

Either the file is very large (we skip drawing to save memory) or your browser cannot play this format. You can still type the times; the server reads the file.
