About AI Image Upscaler
The upscaler runs Real-ESRGAN, an open-source super-resolution model, on our server. Unlike ordinary resizing, which only interpolates pixels, the network reconstructs edges and textures, so small or slightly blurry images look sharper. 2× uses the RealESRGAN x2plus model and 4× the general-purpose x4v3 model. AI cannot recover details that are completely missing: faces, small text and heavily compressed images may look smoothed or invented, so check the result before using it. Results are limited to 16 megapixels: images larger than 4 MP (2×) or 1 MP (4×) are first reduced, and the page tells you when this happens. Images are deleted from the server once the result reaches your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Is this better than normal resizing?
For most photos and graphics, yes: the network adds plausible detail and sharp edges instead of blur. It cannot reveal details that are not in the image.
Why is there a size limit?
Super-resolution is computationally heavy. Larger images are reduced first so the result stays within 16 megapixels and waiting times stay reasonable.
Does it keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas are preserved; the transparency channel is enlarged with high-quality resampling.
