About Repair Video

Repair is best effort and runs on our server with FFmpeg. We first inspect the file: its header, the MP4/MOV block structure, the streams and a full decoding pass that counts errors. Then we try the least invasive fix, rewriting the file without re-encoding while skipping corrupt data, and only if that is still broken we re-encode everything that decodes. Each result is verified independently and classed as repaired, partly recovered or not repairable, with the recovered and original durations. A recording without its index (moov atom) needs a reference file from the same camera and cannot be fixed here; lost footage is never invented. Files are deleted after download, or within about 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Can every video be repaired?

No. Missing data cannot be restored. A cut-off file can be made playable up to the break, damaged frames can be skipped, but what was never written or was overwritten is gone.

What does 'moov atom missing' mean?

The recording stopped before the camera or app wrote the index. Rebuilding it requires a healthy reference video from the same device and settings, which this tool does not do.

Will the quality change?

Not when the fix only rewrites the file. If damaged frames require re-encoding, the video is saved as H.264/AAC MP4 at high quality and the report tells you.

What is the difference between Repaired and Partly recovered?

Repaired means the result decodes cleanly for the full length. Partly recovered means it plays, but part of it is missing or damaged frames were skipped.
