About Video to GIF

The conversion runs on our server with FFmpeg and uses an optimised colour palette generated from your clip, so GIFs look as good as the format allows. GIFs are limited to 256 colours and grow large quickly: keep clips short (up to 30 seconds), around 480 pixels wide and 10 to 15 frames per second for a good balance. The audio track is dropped. Videos up to one hour long are accepted. Files are deleted after the result reaches your browser, or automatically within about 15 minutes.

Why is my GIF so large?

GIF compresses poorly. Reduce the width, frame rate or clip length to make it smaller.

Does the GIF keep the sound?

No. GIF is an image format without audio.
