About Text to Speech

Speech is generated on VersoFile's own server by Chatterbox Multilingual, an open-source voice model (MIT licence); your text is never sent to a third-party service, is not stored after processing and is not used for training. The model has one built-in voice that it uses for all six languages, so there is no male/female choice, and we do not clone real people's voices. Generation runs on a CPU and is slow: roughly a minute of waiting for every 10 to 20 seconds of speech, which is why the limit is 1,000 characters per request. Text is read sentence by sentence; each sentence is checked automatically with speech recognition and regenerated if it does not match, and any sentence that still does not match is reported so you can listen to it. The audio carries an inaudible watermark that marks it as AI-generated.

Which languages are supported?

Arabic, English, Turkish, Russian, Spanish and German. The language can be detected automatically or chosen.

Can I choose a male or female voice?

No. The model provides a single built-in voice and we only offer what it really supports. We do not imitate or clone real people's voices.

Why does it take so long?

The voice model runs on our own CPU server instead of an external AI service, which protects your text but is slower than cloud services.

Is my text stored?

No. It is processed in memory to generate the audio, and the job files are deleted after download or automatically within about 15 minutes.

Can I use the audio commercially?

The model's licence allows commercial use. You are responsible for the text you convert, and the audio is watermarked as AI-generated.
